A diary of my travelling experiences as a family

FASHIONISTAS

Hello folks and happidy hump day!

There is absolutely no doubt that I love to play a little dress up and experiment with fashion on a daily basis. What I have found as my daughter is getting a little older is that my love for fashion and sense of style is rubbing off her. This just reinforces the fact that as her mother I’m a role model and probably her biggest influence. Yes the shoe and bag obsession is adorable but aside from sharing my love for fashion, I also hope that she grows up to be someone genuine and kind.

This thing I do with my wardrobe and taking pride in the way I look each day is purely for fun and for the most part in makes me feel a little happier. After all, being a parent is both thrilling and tiring which means there are days when I wake up feeling like overly tired because I haven’t had enough sleep the night before. I’m ranting on a little because that’s how it’s been since we returned from Europe a few weeks ago. My beautiful little sleeper has now gone back to waking in the night. I’ve put it down to jet lag, the fact that she was sick and is (probably) going through another growth spurt but I’m no expert. She’s my first child so rather than just making assumptions, I’m simply just going to jump on this roller-coaster ride and see where it takes me. Until then, I may as well cherish all those extra cuddles that I get from my little fashionista because she doesn’t want to leave my side…just yet.

Sending love to everyone with loved ones in their hearts.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful weekend.

RELAXED

Hello everyone!

When I came across these denim joggers in Zara at the Hong Kong airport, I grabbed them off the rack without even thinking twice. I mean, hello elasticated joggers made from denim!

Easily paired, I decided to tax my husbands top and beanie to create the perfect street/off-duty look. Indeed it’s far more casual than most of the looks on my blog, although I can assure it’s also the most comfortable outfit I’ve sported. I just wish the joggers came in different colours.

BARCELONA – THINGS TO DO WITH KIDS

Hello

After recently spending 2 weeks in Barcelona for the first time with my little family, I wanted to share with you all the special things that you can do together. This list is not exhaustive however it sums up our favourite parts of the holiday.

ENJOY TIME AT THE BEACH
In mid-March, Barcelona was a nice 20oC and the beach was absolutely full of people. After all, Spain is famous for its beaches so no matter the weather, you would be ripping yourself off if you didn’t pay it a visit. The footpath along with beach is lovely for a stroll and you can always grab some takeaway, plant yourselves on the beach and people watch. After you have had enough, you can find a close by restaurant and have a drink before heading back home.

ENGAGE AND RELAX IN THE PLAYGROUND
Children cherish playtime and lucky for them, there are playgrounds in just about every street in this concrete jungle. You can easily spend time there every single day to keep fuelling their little souls with excitement. All the playgrounds have their own unique configuration, keeping it interesting for the kiddies and there is always plenty of bench space for you to sit down and relax.

TAKE THE HOP ON HOP OFF BUS
Kids love and adventure and taking the train or bus is always good fun for them. The hop on hop off bus will save you time planning the day and is a great way to see town if you have never been to Barcelona before. Tickets can simply be purchased on board the bus on the day and you can hop on and off as many time as you like until your ticket expires. On the day, we decided to walk up to Placa de Catalunya to feed the birds (lots of fun) before hopping on the bus from there. Parc Guell (another must see) was our main destination and we were glad that we didn’t have to put much thought into how to get there.

PARTAKE IN A FREE WALKING TOUR
These are a big hit and best of all they work on tips so you pay what you think the tour was worth. We did 2 free walking tours and I would recommend the Gaudi walking tour which is run by Runner Bean tours. If you are travelling with a child in a pram, do note that there are a few train rides involved in this tour as Gaudi’s work spans widely across Barcelona. Luckily, there are lifts at most of the Trains stations. You will need to fold you pram otherwise and do a bit of juggling. We found it simple to do and the little one enjoyed herself too.

Walking tours are a great way for kids to also see the city

RELAX AT PARC DE LA CIUTADELLA
It can be quite difficult to find some nice grass for you to laze on and have a picnic in central Barcelona. So if you are looking for an inner city park then this is the place to go. It’s absolutely lovely with an abundance of activities for families to enjoy. There is also a zoo if you are interested in spending a whole day there.

TAKE A RIDE ON MONTJUIC CABLE CAR
You can catch the cable car up to view Montjuic Park and Castle. Fees are charged per person so unfortunately kids are charged too but is worth it because the views at the top are amazing. We didn’t know what to expect when we arrived up there but it’s a lovely spot to have a picnic and stroll around. There is a Castle up there which will cost you a tiny $3Euro per person. We didn’t bother with it but judging from the people we saw and the viewing area on top of the castle, there are even better views from up there.

VISIT LA SAGRADA FAMILIA
After over 100 years one of Gaudi’s master pieces is still being built. Funded by anonymous donations and entrance fees, it is expected that Sagrada Familia will be complete in approximately 20 years’ time. Nevertheless, the inside is complete and you are still fortunate to see one of the world’s most famous churches. Entrance fees can vary however note that children under 4 years of age a free. Also, if you are keen to jump the cue (which is massive), all you need to do is book your ticket online, have it printed and have it with you on your selected date.

ALWAYS BE MY BABY

Hello

After a short week in London and detour to Paris, we flew to Barcelona where we’d plant ourselves for two whole weeks. Such a lovely feeling after all that travelling. Waiting for us in Barcelona was a cosy apartment that we booked through AirBnB. This experience was new to us because we’re use to 4+ star hotels with room service and housekeeping. Although now as a family, a fully equipped apartment where we could just be and cook our own meals was more important. Plus it’s far more economical do it this way when there’s a few of you.

I must say, the place we booked looked a little tired (unlike its photographs) but otherwise it was perfect for our first stay in Barcelona. It was cosy, had lovely views of the street from our little balcony, was a short walk to La Ramblas (main strip) and close to public transport. Coffee shops and the famous market were also in close proximity.

Without showing too much of the apartment,  I thought it would be nice to do a style shoot one morning on the balcony before we headed out for the day. My little girl popped on my hat (her choice by the way) and joined in on the fun too. The photographs were a little shady due to the lighting but I absolutely loved how they turned out.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you think of our little outfits.

Next post will be things to do in Barcelona as family.

LOVE IN PARIS

Hello readers

As I write this post, I reminisce about the wonderful time we had in Paris during early March. As a family, we decided to catch the train from London to Paris where we’d appreciate all the city of love has to offer for 2 whole days before heading back to London. When we arrived, we were provided taxi priority as we had a child with us and greeted at our hotel with ‘you’ve brought the sun to Paris with you’. Apparently, they never thought they’d see the sun again.

For the two days, we stayed at the artsy Streets Hotel in Marais. Marais is a lovely spot bustling with great food, lovely people and tasteful boutique shops to appreciate and empty your pockets in.  We also managed to randomly find a lovely spot for lunch, Au Bourguignon Du Marais. Famous for their beef Bourguignon which my fussy husband gave a thumbs up to, I found the place comfortable and extremely family friendly. They also made the best french fries I’d ever tasted so if you ever pop in to Paris on your next trip with the family, I’d definitely recommend this place.

Aside for that, we had such a amazing time wandering around aimlessly for miles, walking by the river and seeing a few famous monuments. Nothing my husband and I have never seen before but this time we had our girl with us to share and appreciate the experiences. Something we have to do again, except the next time, we’d stay there for much longer.

Thanks again for reading and enjoy the images.

LONDON WITH THE FAMILY

Hello

My family and I have just returned from Europe which is why I have been missing in action. Now that we are back, I’m excited to share some our experiences and photographs with you. Our first pit stop was London. Although London has a reputation for being gloomy and unfriendly, personally I find the city absolutely lovely, full of rich history and beautiful monuments to explore. Once more, you don’t have to look for anything specific to appreciate your surroundings.

Although I have been to London several times during my travels, this was my first time as a family with a toddler in tow. Kids are unpredictable creature so as parents, my husband and I weren’t quite sure what to expect. We just knew that travelling in general has its challenges so we put on our game face and suck it up attitude. What DID happen was jet-lag. This meant being awake at 3am, my toddler going stir crazy in the flat by 6am and leaving to head out by 7am or hell would break loose. Yep. Mind you, most days we are still all fast asleep at 7am. When we were out and about however, my little daughter was on a roll. A little explorer in a whole new world full of adventures. Sure all of our routines were out of whack but since we were on holidays, who cares!

During our very short stay, we shopped, ate, walked along the river, jumped around in puddles and had high-tea at the Sanderson Hotel. It was bliss in amongst all the family madness and we had the blast.

More details to come on Paris and Barcelona. In the meantime, thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the images.

Hello gorgeous

I have recently come home from a whole seven days in paradise without my little family!

Agreed that taking a holiday with your friend instead of your family is not everyones idea of a relaxing holiday but it was a simple decision that my husband and I agreed on months before I returned to work earlier this year. That is, I would take time off while hubby looked after our little angel and vice versa. We both felt that it would be healthy for all of us. Trust me, I know how extremely fortunate and lucky I am to have this just work for us. As my friend mentioned on the trip – your husband is one in a million.

On the trip, we spent most of our time in Waikiki and both had so much fun finding it to be one of the best trips. During the day it would be a little time to relax then go, go, go and in the evening before dinner, I would Skype home to check in, say hi and good night to my little one.

There was so much to love about Oahu. The kind people, strong cocktails, warm weather, gorgeous beaches, blue water, green flora and never ending amount palm/coconut trees in full view. To my surprise, I found Waikiki to to be unbelievably family friendly with late sunsets, space for prams, kid friendly menus and loads of water activities to keep the little ones occupied.

Independence day happened to be our final day in Hawaii and my friend and I decided to do not much except hang around with the locals and lay under palm trees at Ala Moana Beach Park. The day ended with a fireworks spectacular which was amazing. It was the most wonderful way to top of our trip. We didn’t however look forward to our 3.45am wake up call for the flight home the next day.

Until next time.. and next time, the whole family will be going.

Thanks for reading. xxx
