FLUFFY

Hello lovers

At 2.5 years of age, my daughter is now very well aware that there is a baby in my tummy and gives it kisses followed by telling me and everyone ‘I’m going to be a good big sister’. She also says ‘ oh baby is cuuuuute’ and ‘I’m having a baby sister’. I’m thoroughly impressed and so is her dad.

Dressed in semi-matching outfits, the squirt and I had a little time for a photoshoot on our way to C.E.R.E.S. I managed to find a vintage dress that fit me (thanks to the elasticated waist) and unfortunately it’s not for sale on Mode Madison. Sorry folks but this dress fits me so I’m keeping it. I accessorised it with some nice ballet flats, a cute vintage bag and my favourite jacket this season. My daughter has a very similar mini jacket so I just couldn’t resist on being a little matchy matchy. Besides, she loooves looking like mummy.

If my style does inspire you, there a a whole lot of gorgeous vintage dresses with elasticated waists on Mode Madison.

Thanks for stopping by!

BARCELONA – THINGS TO DO WITH KIDS

Hello

After recently spending 2 weeks in Barcelona for the first time with my little family, I wanted to share with you all the special things that you can do together. This list is not exhaustive however it sums up our favourite parts of the holiday.

ENJOY TIME AT THE BEACH
In mid-March, Barcelona was a nice 20oC and the beach was absolutely full of people. After all, Spain is famous for its beaches so no matter the weather, you would be ripping yourself off if you didn’t pay it a visit. The footpath along with beach is lovely for a stroll and you can always grab some takeaway, plant yourselves on the beach and people watch. After you have had enough, you can find a close by restaurant and have a drink before heading back home.

ENGAGE AND RELAX IN THE PLAYGROUND
Children cherish playtime and lucky for them, there are playgrounds in just about every street in this concrete jungle. You can easily spend time there every single day to keep fuelling their little souls with excitement. All the playgrounds have their own unique configuration, keeping it interesting for the kiddies and there is always plenty of bench space for you to sit down and relax.

TAKE THE HOP ON HOP OFF BUS
Kids love and adventure and taking the train or bus is always good fun for them. The hop on hop off bus will save you time planning the day and is a great way to see town if you have never been to Barcelona before. Tickets can simply be purchased on board the bus on the day and you can hop on and off as many time as you like until your ticket expires. On the day, we decided to walk up to Placa de Catalunya to feed the birds (lots of fun) before hopping on the bus from there. Parc Guell (another must see) was our main destination and we were glad that we didn’t have to put much thought into how to get there.

PARTAKE IN A FREE WALKING TOUR
These are a big hit and best of all they work on tips so you pay what you think the tour was worth. We did 2 free walking tours and I would recommend the Gaudi walking tour which is run by Runner Bean tours. If you are travelling with a child in a pram, do note that there are a few train rides involved in this tour as Gaudi’s work spans widely across Barcelona. Luckily, there are lifts at most of the Trains stations. You will need to fold you pram otherwise and do a bit of juggling. We found it simple to do and the little one enjoyed herself too.

Walking tours are a great way for kids to also see the city

RELAX AT PARC DE LA CIUTADELLA
It can be quite difficult to find some nice grass for you to laze on and have a picnic in central Barcelona. So if you are looking for an inner city park then this is the place to go. It’s absolutely lovely with an abundance of activities for families to enjoy. There is also a zoo if you are interested in spending a whole day there.

TAKE A RIDE ON MONTJUIC CABLE CAR
You can catch the cable car up to view Montjuic Park and Castle. Fees are charged per person so unfortunately kids are charged too but is worth it because the views at the top are amazing. We didn’t know what to expect when we arrived up there but it’s a lovely spot to have a picnic and stroll around. There is a Castle up there which will cost you a tiny $3Euro per person. We didn’t bother with it but judging from the people we saw and the viewing area on top of the castle, there are even better views from up there.

VISIT LA SAGRADA FAMILIA
After over 100 years one of Gaudi’s master pieces is still being built. Funded by anonymous donations and entrance fees, it is expected that Sagrada Familia will be complete in approximately 20 years’ time. Nevertheless, the inside is complete and you are still fortunate to see one of the world’s most famous churches. Entrance fees can vary however note that children under 4 years of age a free. Also, if you are keen to jump the cue (which is massive), all you need to do is book your ticket online, have it printed and have it with you on your selected date.

LONDON WITH THE FAMILY

Hello

My family and I have just returned from Europe which is why I have been missing in action. Now that we are back, I’m excited to share some our experiences and photographs with you. Our first pit stop was London. Although London has a reputation for being gloomy and unfriendly, personally I find the city absolutely lovely, full of rich history and beautiful monuments to explore. Once more, you don’t have to look for anything specific to appreciate your surroundings.

Although I have been to London several times during my travels, this was my first time as a family with a toddler in tow. Kids are unpredictable creature so as parents, my husband and I weren’t quite sure what to expect. We just knew that travelling in general has its challenges so we put on our game face and suck it up attitude. What DID happen was jet-lag. This meant being awake at 3am, my toddler going stir crazy in the flat by 6am and leaving to head out by 7am or hell would break loose. Yep. Mind you, most days we are still all fast asleep at 7am. When we were out and about however, my little daughter was on a roll. A little explorer in a whole new world full of adventures. Sure all of our routines were out of whack but since we were on holidays, who cares!

During our very short stay, we shopped, ate, walked along the river, jumped around in puddles and had high-tea at the Sanderson Hotel. It was bliss in amongst all the family madness and we had the blast.

More details to come on Paris and Barcelona. In the meantime, thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the images.

APPRECIATION

Love2 Love6 Love4 Love3

Hi all

My commitment to not by any new clothes for this entire year, at the time seemed like the hardest thing I’d ever do. For months I remember stalking shopping websites and shop fronts yearning for clothes that I knew I was never going to own.  It was difficult but temptations never got the better of me and whilst I still love to browse online, the once addicted and impulsive shopper no longer exists.

The birth of my daughter in early 2012 may have had something to do with the rationale behind my crazy new years resolution. Although for the most part, my commitment  was driven by my needs rather than wants. The need to re-prioritise my expenditure, the need to be less of a consumerist, the need to minimise my carbon footprint , the need to be more creative, the need to be more of a responsible mother and the need to appreciate what I already have instead of my desires.

Ten months into this year, my closest friends and awesome followers often wonder how I do it. If I have inspired you at all to think twice about actively shopping, my tip would be to have a conservative and achievable approach. For instance I committed to no new clothes so this in fact did not extend to shoes and accessories.  That said, I didn’t exactly splurge either. Surprisingly, my shopping appetite seemed to curb at all levels. I haven’t even used the Zara voucher my friends gave me in May this year. Aside from that, my wardrobe was extensive enough to give me a variety of options and luckily enough my pre-pregnancy clothes still fit my post baby body.

All in all, like the outfit for this post, I am proud about the outfits I have created, the clothes I managed to finally wear and my ability to show you that you can still look and feel good without the need to update your wardrobe. Whilst I am counting down the days so I can freely shop again, I do believe that this commitment has changed me as a person. I will never be that impulsive shopper and heavy consumerist I once was.

As always thank you for reading and following my journey.

CHICKEN & ZUCCHINI PATTIES CRUMBED WITH QUINOA FLAKES

Hello all

Over the weekend, I made these super easy patties for my daughter and husband. As a vegetarian, I didn’t get to personally taste them, however I was told they were delicious!

So what’s in them?

400g of chicken mince
1 x medium sized zucchini
2 x eggs
1 x cup quinoa flakes
Pepper & cumin to season
Olive oil

The simple instructions

1. Wash and cut the ends off the zucchini, then begin to grate and place in a bowl

image

2. Add the chicken mince in with the grated zucchini and begin kneading the mixture with your hands. Beat the eggs and then add it to the mixture together with a sprinkle of pepper and cumin, then fold the mixture together using a fork

image

3. Place a tablespoon of the mixture into your hands, roll it into a ball, then flatten into medallion shaped patties, dip it into the quinoa flakes, then set aside. Repeat until mixture is finished

image

4. Place a pan
on high heat and add in a dash of olive oil

image

5. Add in the patties and then turn the heat on low. When the flakes are golden brown, flip it over to cook evenly on both sides. On low heat, the patties should stay on the pan for approximately 10 minutes on each side

image

6. Leave to cool and serve warm

image

I made 10 patties by using only half the mixture so depending on the size of your patties, you should be able to make approximately 20 patties.

And there you go. Until next time…thanks for reading xx
